Scott
Tignor, Director of Bands
Scott Tignor was born in Charleston, WV on July 17, 1973. He holds
degrees from Tennessee Technological University (BM in Music Education)
and Arkansas State University (MM in Music Composition). He is
currently (A.B.D.) completing a Doctor of Musical Arts in tuba
performance at the University of North Texas. He attended Interlochen
Arts Camp as the West Virginia Governor's Scholar. Currently he
is the Director of Bands at Ritchie County High School. Mr. Tignor
previously taught band in the Mineral Wells ISD in Mineral Wells,
Texas.
Mr. Tignor has performed throughout the United
States, and has performed in ensembles such as the North Texas
Wind Symphony, Shreveport Symphony Orchestra and Northeast Arkansas
Symphony Orchestras. He has severed as principal tubist with Midland/Odessa
Symphony and Chorale, Garland Symphony Orchestra, Las Colinas
Symphony Orchestra, and New Symphony of Arlington. Mr. Tignor
was the winner of the 1998 Brass Category, Northeast Arkansas
Symphony Orchestra Concerto Contest and a finalist for the 2003
Texas Regional Tuba Euphonium Conference Tuba Artist Solo Competition.
He has also participated in recordings with the North Texas Wind
Symphony, 2 O'Clock Lab Band and the Tennessee Tech Tuba Ensemble.
At the 2002 International Tuba Euphonium Conference, he presented
a lecture recital on "The Use of Real-Time Synthesis in the Music
of Euphoniums and Tubas". By commissioning and premiering several
new works, he is actively generating new works for tuba.
His former teachers have included such artist
as Brian Bowman, William Holmes, R. Winston Morris, Don Little,
and Jerry Young. Mr. Tignor has additionally studied composition
with Robert Jager, Charles Rochester Young, Jared Spears, and
Cindy McTee. He was honored to have his first major premiere at
the Eastern National Tuba/Euphonium Conference. His Enchanted
Circus was premiered on the New Music Recital at the National
MENC Conference in Kansas City, Missouri. As well, his compositions
have been performed at the National MENC Conference, Eastern National
Tuba and Euphonium Conference, Arkansas MENC Conference, and Atlanta
International Band and Orchestra Conference. Cimarron Music Publications
and PerMus Publication are Scott Tignor's publishers.
